Truly a minstrel of the valley, cellist Martin Kratky plays full-time in the Okanagan and Kamloops Symphony Orchestras-as assistant principal, and principal cellist, respectively. He also teaches students at three music schools each week: the Penticton Academy of Music, the Kelowna Community Music School, and the Kamloops Symphony Music School.
Martin's holds a Master's degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto. Immediately upon graduating, he won the position of principal cello with the Saskatoon Symphony. Two masterclass residencies at the Banff Centre offered lasting inspiration.
During the summer months, you may spot him paddling his cedar-strip kayak, made in Tappen by Robin Russell. In the winter, he enjoys nordic skiing. He is proud to perform upon a cello made in 2009 by Wolfgang Schrottner of Kamloops.
